My name is Debra Amszi and I am the one that thinks about collies and loves on collies  all day.  I'm also the vice president of the collie club of Austin Texas with goals to help get more conformation collie shows going in Central Texas!

My husband Shawn and I work together on our breeding program. We got into this venture together because of our love for collies. Shawn is  enjoying handling our collies in the conformation ring and he’s also interested in the herding training and other activities. He seems a natural at handling in a professional way.

Breeding philosophy:
Honeytree Collies has worked hard for years to develop our own style of collies with our high standard for both looks and health.
We do many expensive health tests on our collies as a breeding tool to make well informed balanced decisions, as well as breeding them strictly by the Collie Standard.
This is serious to us to stop breeding when we know a problem will be passed on to families that love our collies.
We also know how to NOT throw away a good collie just because one thing is not perfect, and we do know how to STOP breeding a collie. Often we can keep a pup with improvements and we will keep  a good line that way.
(It is so very important to breed for many areas to keep the quality balanced in all areas.)

I don't have pups so often but I can help you with some information if you are shopping and see or hear something about tests that you would like confirmed.

Our Knowledge:
I am often wanting to teach what I learn but mostly I know it is important to keep learning whatever you do, and what I do is collies, collies, collies..
It is important for a breeder to take breeding serious by continuing to learn and stay tuned to the best quality of health, personality, and to keep the breed the most attractive as possible. This way the public will desire to continue the support of the breed.
If the best breeders that strive for the best of the breed are not supported in these modern times then the new laws will drown out all breeders and there will only be mixed breeds continuing to be brought in from off other country's streets for our shelters.
There are many back yard breeders, farm breeders, gimmick breeders, new pop up breeders with fancy websites, and of course the infamous puppy mills all over the country.  The clues?  Not many clues. They can put on any look that they want with skill.
How to find good breeders?
The shopper can study many things before jumping into buying suddenly.  This is important because if not then more laws will be passed in the effort to get rid of the back yard, sudden breeders, puppy mills, and unlearned breeders trying to make puppy money.

Often I hear buyers state that they do not want a nice collie or show collie because it will just be a family pet.
So often it is the gimmick driven back yard or new breeders that charge the highest prices and the puppy sold will never have the test results or pedigree as claimed anyway. The buyer often will never know they were scammed if they are lucky.    But with just some shopping around and learning they can go ahead and get a better, more beautiful, and healthier collie for the same or less of a price.

A breeder that knows and continues to learn what they are doing will enter their collies in different activities to further their collies abilities and mostly further the breeder's continued education of what are the best collies to breed..
We go to conformation shows to have a good time, gather with like minded quality collie breeders, and compete with the best collies. Activities like this keep a breeder from becoming "kennel blind" which is a serious affliction where a breeder believes they have top quality collies and will continue to breed pups that start out cute but end up in shelters becasue they grew up to look like mutts or with unpleasant personalities and the new owners decided to not own a so called "collie" after all..
We take our collies to some of the best herding
and agility training instructors, and a trick training schools around! We are a participating members of the Collie Club of Austin.
All of this activity is needed to keep a breeder in tune to making good decisions on breeding the best. This is important to be a continued thing and not just a one time thing a breeder does just for appearance.
Another clue to a breeder's serousness to keep undated with breeding for quality is activity in clubs. Clubs can be listed on websites, but the activity is the proof.

How do breeders of any animal assure the best that can be for farm , work, ranch, or even food?
The answer is that breeders of anything will NOT have the best that can be unless they show against other breeders and all strive for the best.  It is the only way a breeder can learn and keep up to date on what is the best.
(beware of breeders that only buy from others and only use the work of others to make sales. Do not trust a nice pedigree unless you contact the owners of the back line to be sure that breeding could have happened)

Any Collie Owner is welcome at Honeytree Ranch:

Honeytree Collies also offers collie owners various special training sessions and events throughout the year, like grooming lessons, herding instinct tests, or a fun gathering day with top trainers at a discounted cost.

We only do breedings that we believe will improve the quality of our collies. We do not breed our dogs just to have puppies.

You can get on our available list by filling out your information on a form on our website. We will keep you informed on what we have available by our mailing list. If you are interested, we do accept deposits.

Visitors Allowed?

We still accept visitors but we are a working ranch and need a notice..

Of course all honeytree collie owners are welcome to visit here too.

Emails or calls are welcome if you have questions regarding our collies, or about us. If we don’t have anything available at the time you want your collie if you do not want to wait for us, then  we will only refer you to a collie breeder we know that is honest and you can trust.

I am looking forward to your emails, we want you to feel welcome at Honeytree Collies.

Available Honeytree Collies?

We breed for ourselves first and then we will have companions and show prospects that can be trained in many activities. Our companion collies will be sold with a limited registration, good for all events except breeding and conformation.
I put together a package of papers, pedigrees, and health information for each puppy or adult. I am on call for any questions or help I can give you, and we offer a 5year and lifetime free puppy replacement for many possibilities. We do not take your loved collie away if a replacement is approved for any genetic possibilities. Our goal is for all Honeytree collie families to have a positive and long lasting experience and quality life together.

We do not allow our collies for breeding to others, but will consider this only to established show breeders or  co own show agreements.

Companions for family members are required to not be bred. Our standard contract requires spay or neuter , this will keep your collie more focused on you for relationships and training.  If you desire to keep your collie intact, I will listen to your reason . .

This limited registration certificate can be used on all activities and events except breeding and conformation shows.   We love the puppies and grown collies we send out into this world.

Deposits show us you are the most serious and you are welcome to discuss a deposit. Your deposit IS refundable, if we can not meet your collie needs. The demand for Honeytree collies are increasing as each day passes and we do consider the needs of the deposit list as we breed for improvements of collies.

Thank you for visiting our website and considering a Honeytree Collie.
