Sable Collies

Sable collies are called "Sable and White", because there are no sable collies without some white on the body, neck, legs, feet, or  face.

If one of the parents of a sable collie is a tri colored or tri factored that sable and white collie can be a dark sable with tri factoring and be genetically tri factored.

If both parents of a litter are tri factored then some of the puppies in a litter can be tri colored. If one of the parents are a tri colored collie then every pup in the litter will be genetically tri factored even if it is a sable and white with no visible black hairs.

Some sable collies are genetically "Pure for sable" which means they can be bred to a tri colored collie or tri-factored collie and never have any pups that are tri colored. Sometimes a "pure for sable" will look more orange colored with no black highlights or a golden yellow, or light colored.  Every now and then a pure for sable can look dark sable or black hairs somewhere but still be genetically pure for sable.

A sable and white collie can be white factored but still be called a sable and white color.

If both prarents of a litter are white factored then there can be puppies in the litter that get more than 75% white on their bodies and will be called white collies.

A sable and white collie can be white factored and tri factored.
