Tri Collies
tri-colored collies are also called Black, White, and Tan
Because they always have these 3 colors.
Two tri colored collies that are bred together will never produce a sable collie. In fact the whole litter will be tri colored collies if one parent is non white factered, or with both parents with no merle gene.
If one tri-colored parent is a genetic merle then a merle gene can show up in a pup and make a blue merle collie. Most collies with a merle gene can be seen as a merle, especially at birth.
A tri colored collie can be white factored , if both parents are also white factored then some , all , or none of the pups born can be called white if they they get over 75% white on their bodies.
If both parents are tri colored and white factored then any white pups will have tri colored heads and never have a sable head or sable body.
If only one parent is white factored and the other is not white factored then none of the pups will be white collies. Some pups in a litter can be white factored if one of the parents is white factored.
Often you can tell a white factored collie by noticable white higher up on the back legs or a white spot on the back or rear. This is not always the case but most often.
